Sustainable Materials
We only use sustainable, recycled or recyclable materials.
A strong, flexible and fast-growing plant. The fastest growing type can reach one meter in a day! Once cut, new shoots grow back from the roots. Bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than a tree and the cultivation does not require pesticides and chemicals.
Is made from waste glass. Glass recycling uses less energy than the production of new glass. For every 1000 kg of waste glass recycled into new items, it saves 315kg of Co2 from being released. Glass is infinitely recyclable. So keep going to the glass containers on your way to the supermarket!
Like old newspapers, carton and other printed matter are made into paper pulp. The advantage of paper is that it can be re-used many times. Paper was the first material in the world that is being recycled on a large scale.
Waste car tires are no longer suitable for the use on vehicles. They are made of natural and synthetic rubber and not biodegradable. We have to be creative in ways to recycle and re-use waste tires, so we turned them into cool pendants!
Is harvested from the trunk of the cork oak; Quercus Suber. The harvesting process does not damage the tree. It is similar to shearing wool off a sheep. Cork oaks are productive for 150 years. Portugal produces 55% of the world production.
Is a textile made from the fibers of the flax plant and has been around for more than 2000 years. Linen is compared to cotton, 30% stronger and less water and chemicals are needed for the cultivation. A non-toxic dye is used to colour the linen.
Jute fibers are collected from the bast of the jute plant; Corchorus. The plant is grown from seed and harvested within 4-6 months. The long fibers are spun into coarse, strong threads. The jute fibers are the most widely cultivated vegetable fibers after cotton.
Comes from the Musa Textilis plant and is a relative of the banana plant. Abaca is native to the Philippines and has been cultivated since the 16th century. Each plant produces 12 to 25 leaf stems. About 2-4 times a year, the stems are harvested. The plant grows back from the roots.
Are made of the leftover of wood processing. The pieces are cut into small chips by a woodchipping machine. This material is being used as biomass fuel, organic mulch for gardening and landscaping. And now, for lighting as well!
STILL TO ADJUST!Is the term for woven furniture of cane-like materials of a plant such as reed, willow, rattan and bamboo. Our Kalahari is made of willow and completely biodegradable and therefore better for our planted. Each shade is handcrafted and no two pieces are the same.

in rural areas off the grid.
And on top of that:
a tree is planted for each lamp we sell.
Since the beginning of this adventure we have helped over 3,000 families. We have set our goal
to double our donation by the end of 2020!
